Using AIStream
AIStream
AIStream is a tool for change data capture (CDC) on IBM i. It streams database changes as Kafka topics. It can run from a client machine (e.g. Windows or Mac), or natively from an IBM i host. It can be used to add, remove or list monitors for a specified database table on IBM i. It can also starts as a monitoring daemon. When the daemon is started, it routes the coming database changes (e.g. DB inserts, updates and deletes) to a specified Kafka broker. You can then use the kafdrop web UI to view the database changes as Kafka topics.

Here is a typical work flow to see how AIStream functions:
-
Invoke the ADD action to add a DB table to the monitor
We need to specify the schema name and table name for the ADD action. The ADD action can be invoked multiple times to add multiple DB tables to the monitor. -
Invoke the LIST action to list all monitored tables
-
Invoke the DAEMONSTART action to start kafka routing for the monitored tables
-
Start the Kafdrop web UI container
-
Make a few changes to the DB table being monitored
-
Point the browser at the URL: http://localhost:9000
-
Refresh the brower after each DB update. Search for the topic for each update and open the topic to see the details about the DB changes.
